See where you stand on the grade plan
Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026 (updated for company plans)
This policy explains how the FieldGrade app for iPhone and iPad ("the app"), made by Timothy Faneuf ("we"), handles information.
Information we collect
The app has no accounts and no sign-in. It has no analytics, advertising, or tracking, and contains no third-party code that collects data.
Company plans only. If you enter a company code (given to your employer when it buys FieldGrade for its crew), the app sends our server the code, a random ID the app makes for your device, and your device's name as iOS reports it. Crew sharing then sends the markers and area notes you create (their position, elevation, note text, and time) and receives your crew's, so everyone on the company plan sees them; the company's office can see and delete them on its dashboard, along with the device list. Plans your company's office uploads are downloaded to your device. Your live location, location history, and your own plan files are never sent. Leaving the company plan in the app stops sharing and removes your device from the list. If you don't use a company code, the app sends us nothing.
Purchases
The free trial and the unlock are handled by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment details.
Companies that buy a company plan on our website pay through PayPal. We don't receive card or bank details. PayPal tells us the subscription's status and the buyer's name and email address, which we use to email the company code and office PIN, keep the plan active, and answer questions.
Location
With your permission, the app uses your device's location and compass only while it's open. It uses them to show your position and heading on the plan, measure distances, and guide you back to marked points. Your location is processed on your device and never sent to us. The app doesn't record a history of where you've been, and it stops using location when it's in the background. When you drop a marker at your position, that marker's coordinates are saved on your device with the note you type.
You can turn off location access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › FieldGrade.
Plans and markers
Plan files you open in the app, and the markers, area notes, and notes you create, are stored only in the app's storage on your device. We don't receive them.
Maps from Apple
The satellite and street base maps are provided by Apple Maps (MapKit). To show map imagery, your device asks Apple's servers for the part of the map on screen. Apple handles those requests under its own privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. The app doesn't send Apple your plans, your markers, or a record of your location.
Other map imagery (optional)
If you choose Esri, Mapbox, or Google satellite imagery under Layers, your device asks that company's servers for the map tiles for the area on screen, the same way it does with Apple Maps. Those requests go directly from your device to the provider and are handled under its privacy policy. They include the area being viewed, not your plans, markers, notes, or a record of your location. Drone imagery you import stays on your device.
Backups
If you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, iOS may include the app's data in those backups. That is controlled by your device settings and Apple's terms.
Children
The app is a work tool and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
You can delete plans and markers in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll post the updated version on this page and change the effective date above.
